The OP's picture of the filter Not mine, I was demonstrating that my entire filter is blackened while his is only partially, and half the filter looks untouched by oil.

Sorry for the delay, I missed your question.

The used filter was completely black. What you are seeing is the new filter that I stuffed in the holder, plugged and screwed in, and then took out again when I realized I didn't have a photo. It's a new filter, just stained.

Thanks for the "Dummies Guide" for changing oil. Now all I need is someone to take pictures of an oil change on the new 3.8 litre engine so that even I can do it when the time comes.
