Jaguar takes aim at the new M5, RS6, and E63
Our Teamspeed spies catch this "big bad cat test" mule today which at first glance looks like a standard Jaguar XFR, but we believe this is actually a mule for the XFR-S version of the XF. It’s still missing the special body parts that the XFR-S probably will have, but the track looks slightly wider and it’s sporting the same wheels as the XKR-S already.
Other things that make us suspicious are the fact that it’s testing together with the XKR-S Convertible prototype and the sound it produces. Our spies mentioned to us that there are plenty of XFR's driving around here at Jaguars test center close to the Nürburgring, and not one of them sounded as aggressive this one. The throttle response is also very quick when the driver floors it and the only explanation should be that the 550 horsepower strong engine from the XKR-S has been planted under the hood of this XF.
Adrian Hallmark, Jaguars global brand director, has confirmed that Jaguar are working on a project to transfer the XKR-S upgrades to the XFR as well. It seems like the war is on for family supercars like the Audi RS6, the BMW M5 and the Mercedes E63 AMG with Jaguar knocking on the door to the club.

This is clearly to counter the new M5.
The current XFR is a better car than the outgoing M5, so with BMW bringing out a more powerful M5, it's obviously Jaguar staying ahead of the game.
I can't wait to see how this thing goes!

This ought to be the best new performance sedan on the market.
Jaguar has really been putting out some awesome products that meet or even beat their competitors but the problem is that Jaguar has never really pushed hard to get as big as MB, BMW, or Audi. Maybe that's a good thing though.

Yeah, I recall Jag executives saying that there won't be an XJR and that the Supersport is the top model. I just think it's a pity that is has nothing in the way of visual distinction. It'd be cool if they made an R Package, like the Speed pack for the XKR, with a bit of additional power, a tad of lowering and visual mods similar to the renders. The XJ design could easily lend itself to a bit more aggression without becoming vulgar.
