Hangar collapse at Dulles International Airport

So much for keeping your $30+ million dollar planes tucked away nice and safe inside from the snow storm. This hangar is just a few years old and is over at the Dulles Jet Center on the GA side.

Ouch, insurance companies will not like this. I'm guessing this is because of the snow weight?

Yeah. Unreal. That last pic you can really see it, though I can't tell if that I-Beam snapped in the beam or along a weld.

Correct me if I'm wrong; but aren't those buildings designed to withstand a certain amount of snow weight?

Bad Day is the understatement of the year for them.....

Yeah, they have to be engineered to a certain number, but I don't know what that is for that county.

I did hear a weather guy say last night that in Washington DC alone there are 20 million TONS of snow on the ground.

That's crazy! I can't imagine how upset the owners of those planes must be. I am sure that the insurance company will put up a fight and try to find a way out of paying for that.

It's amazing to think that a new hangar would collapse like that. I am curious to know how this will turn out. I feel for all those beautiful planes.
