918 Deposit Information

I am so confused about something . Companies like Koenisgseggeggegegegegeg and Pagani sell what are basically kit cars ( of a high standard undoubtedly ) and its ok for them to sell cars for 1.4 million Pounds (!) .
Yet a proper supercar maker , with heritage , engineering expertise ,experience etc etc makes something like this for half the price and its too expensive .
Can someone explain what thats about ?

Dear Mr xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Since the Porsche 918 Spyder concept made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, which was then followed up with the exciting Porsche 918 RSR ‘racing laboratory’ concept at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2011, the world’s press have been waxing lyrical about the potential of this super sports car.
Now, we are pleased to confirm certain details about the car and, as one of the first customers to express an interest in the Porsche 918 Spyder, we want to make sure you are amongst the first to know.
The price of the Porsche 918 Spyder has now been set at €645,000 plus VAT (€779,335 including VAT @ 20% but excluding on-the-road charges). Due to the limited production volume of just 918 examples planned to be built over the production lifespan from September 2013 to the end of 2014 and the fact that it will be available only in left-hand drive, it has been decided to price the car in euros.
Within the next month, you will receive an information pack which will cover outline specification, performance and technical data along with details regarding the ordering process. If you have subsequently decided not to proceed and do not wish to receive the information pack, please let us know in writing as soon as possible or email us.
We are also delighted to announce the availability of the new Porsche 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder. This is a limited special model which will be offered exclusively for 918 Spyder customers in both Coupe and Cabriolet forms. It is available in right-hand drive and 918 examples of this are also planned to be built worldwide. The information pack will also cover this special model in detail.
In the meantime, please find a copy of the press information which is released on Monday 21 March 2011. A hard copy of this communication has also been posted to you.
Yours sincerely,
Andy Goss
