Radical Sportscars sells stake to private consortium

Radical Sportscars, the creators of the manic Radical SR3 and SR8, has sold a minority stake to a consortium of private investors.

While the identity of the investors wasn't disclosed, finance company Cavendish Corporate did say that they included "a private family office and an industry expert."

Valued by Cavendish at a cool £30 million, the company produces over 230 cars every year, making it the second largest manufacturer (by volume) of purpose-built racing cars, just behind Porsche.

Currently the Radical range comprises the SR series, including the SR3, SR4 and SR8, as well as the entry level PR6.

If you've never heard of Radical before, then maybe this will help:

Here are the specs of the current SR3 SL:

Length: 4.10m
Height: 1.13m
Width: 1.79m
Min Weight: 795kg
Max Speed: 161mph
0-60mph: 3.0 sec
Braking G's: 2.0
Cornering G's: 2.5

- Two-seater, powder-coated carbon steel spaceframe chassis with integral safety cell - complying with FiA Production Sports Car Safety Structure Test

- Aluminium honeycomb front crash structures complying with FiA Production Sports Car Crash Test

- 300bhp RPE-Ford 2000cc,turbocharged engine with direct split-event fuel injection, Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing, fly-by-wire throttle and LIFE ECU

- Six-speed sequential transaxle with integral Quaife ATB differential

- Paddleshift gearchange with auto-blipper

- Intrax adjustable suspension optimised for road use

- 280mm, 48-vane fully-floating disc brakes front and rear with four-pot callipers

Although it's a street-legal car, it's effectively a race car for the road.

The investment will see further expansion to the product range as well as refinements in production.
